Book Recommendation: Attention! This Book Will Make You Money by Jim Kukral

Attention by Jim Kukral

This is part two of my three-book review. Check out my last post for Marketing Outrageously by Jon Spoelstra. If you read it and followed Spoelstra’s rules, you now have all these great marketing ideas. But, something’s bothering you…what good are all these ideas if no one notices them? Well, that leads me right into my next book review. The second book that I recommend is Attention! This Book Will Make You Money: How to Use Attention-Getting Online Marketing to Increase your Revenue by Jim Kukral.

Jim Kukral is a Cleveland entrepreneur, professional speaker, award-winning blogger and consultant. When I saw him present at a conference, I learned of his book. It was his recommendation of Marketing Outrageously that got me to check out that book. He has great advice on how to build your own online business. In Attention, he explains how to increase revenue for your business by getting and sustaining attention.

Kukral gives techniques to help you generate ideas, and how and where to implement them. Then, he gives great examples of how it all can work for you. One point he made that has stuck with me was his simple assertion: Don’t be in the middle. Take a stand. Love it or hate it. And, nobody pays attention to the people in the middle or with a neutral opinion or stand. I’m paraphrasing, but that’s one thing that I’ve worked hard on with my career.

One of the fun things about this book is that he challenges the readers to come up with a unique way to get his attention. It gets you thinking as soon as you start reading. I haven’t attempted the challenge yet, but I only read it a couple of months ago. One of the more fun chapters of the book details his attempts to get Mark Cuban to call him. I won’t tell you here if he’s successful. You’ll have to read it. But it’s examples like that where you see how you can apply his advice. I wouldn’t say it’s easy as there’s a lot of hard work involved, but it may not be as hard as it seems in our minds sometimes. He motivates you while showing you the tactics you can use that are available to most readers.

Like Marketing Outrageously, I came away very inspired after reading this book. There are tactics I’ve implemented with projects I’m working on. I recommend you check out this book, and Jim Kukral if he’s speaking anywhere near you. You won’t be disappointed. You can also check out his website at www.jimkukral.com.

So, now you’ve got great ideas to do some new exciting marketing tactics. Then, after you read this book, you’ll know how to get attention to whatever it is you’re marketing. What’s next? Well, now that you’ve got people’s attention, you’ve got to keep it. How do you do that? With great content, of course. How do you come up with great content…and a lot of it? You’ll have to check out my next blog post where I’ll review Content Rules by C.C. Chapman and Ann Handley. They teach you how to create great content to keep your customers/readers engaged.

If you’ve read any of these books or have examples or opinions on these subjects, then please share them. I’d love to hear what you’re doing to get attention for your company. As always, thanks for reading! Please share this blog with others you think would find it interesting and sign up to get it emailed to you.
