Book Recommendation: Epic Content Marketing by Joe Pulizzi

Epic Content Marketing by Joe Pulizzi

As if there’s not enough pressure to deliver an engaging book for any author, but it’s multiplied when the author is the “Godfather of Content Marketing”. Then, add the fact that the name of the book is “Epic Content Marketing”. For good measure, “borrow” imagery and the feel of Star Wars. Finally, top that off by debuting the book at Content Marketing World, a conference you created and hold in your hometown (Cleveland!). It’s regarded as the best content marketing conference in the country. Now, you’ve raised the expectations far beyond what anyone can live up to, right? Well, unless you’re Joe Pulizzi!

There are a lot of great books that tackle different aspects of content marketing. But, with “Epic Content Marketing: How to Tell a Different Story, Break Through the Clutter, and Win More Customers by Marketing Less”, Pulizzi brings it all together. He takes us from concept to implementation of an effective content marketing strategy. For those looking for a complete look at creating the strategy, this is the book. It’s also for those who have heard Joe speak many times and want all that knowledge captured in one place. After reading, you’ll know exactly why Joe is the “Godfather of Content Marketing.”

This book, his third, gives you a brief history of content marketing (along with the definition). He teaches you how to define your content niche, content marketing mission statement, and strategy. How many of us have heard him stress how important that is? You’ll learn how to determine the content types that may work for you and how to create it. He explains where to find available resources you need and how to use them. Then, he discusses where to distribute your content so people can find it. Finally, learn how to measure your success.

This is a book that I plan to read many times and use as a constant resource. You can read it straight through or jump around to specific topics.  Pulizzi has a way of breaking the information down with easy to understand examples and case studies. Because of this (and other reasons), he’s been able to lead the charge of content marketing. Of course, I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t point out that he’s doing it from Cleveland. Thanks to Joe, it’s the “International Home of Content Marketing”!Thanks for reading and, if you like this, please sign up to receive my blog in your email and share it with your friends.
