Marketing Book Recommendation: Summer Reading List

Summer Marketing Book Reading List

Finally, the weather’s warm, so here’s your summer marketing book reading list! Excited, aren’t you? Well, you should be. These are great books! These are books that, when applied, can make your life better.

Linchpin by Seth Godin

Linchpin, Are you Indispensible?

So, here we go! First up is a marketing book I can NOT recommend more. Linchpin, Are You Indispensible? by Seth Godin was the first book I’ve read by Godin (but it wasn’t the last). This book inspires you to rethink the way school and past factory work conditions us to work. Companies are no longer successful by rewarding workers for towing the company line. Instead, we need to be linchpins. We need to be creative, push boundaries and take our companies to new levels. We need to strive to be artists.

Tough Shit by Kevin Smith

Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good

My next choice is Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good by Kevin Smith. You may know Kevin Smith as Silent Bob, as in Jay and Silent Bob from his movies, including Clerks. I’m a fan of his and thought this was going to be more of a comedy book. But it turns out, it’s the perfect follow-up to Linchpin. His story acts as a case study of how he applied the principles of being a linchpin to create his movies. He does this using his brand of humor which fans of his will love.

Socialnomics by Erik Qualman

Socialnomics: How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live and Do Business

Socialnomics: How Social Media Transforms the Way We Live and Do Business by Erik Qualman explains how the social world is influencing the way we do business. This is a book that I will read over and over and always find something new. He gives great stories of companies that are blazing the trail for the new socialnomics world we now live in. Qualman knows what he’s talking about and I will continue to seek out his wisdom whether it be in his blog, Tweets, etc.

Amazing Things Will Happen by C.C. Chapman

Amazing Things Will Happen: A Real-World Guide on Achieving Success & Happiness

C.C. Chapman’s new book, Amazing Things Will Happen: A Real-World Guide on Achieving Success & Happiness, is a guide for achieving happiness by living a more fulfilling life. Through his own examples and from others, he shows how to make the most of where you are and how to get where you want to be.

On Writing by Stephen King

On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft

Finally, if you’re a writer and/or looking to improve your writing, who better to learn from than Stephen King! With On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft, King intersperses the inspirations for many of his stories with his advice on how to write fiction. He understands that everyone has different styles and his way is not for everyone. So he keeps it to tips that will help improve your writing, rather than a step-by-step how to. While he’s writing for fiction writers, his tips transfer to any type of writing.

There it is. It’s your marketing book list for when you’re relaxing in the hammock, laying on the beach or flying to your next vacation. Don’t worry…you don’t have to give me any book reports. But, I will ask you to offer up your book suggestions below! Tell me what needs to be on my summer list. I have quite a list already, but I’m always looking for suggestions. Thanks for reading and please feel free to share this with your friends and/or sign up to receive my blog in your email!
